Our History

Reigate Grammar School Vietnam (RGS Vietnam), formerly known as The International School of Vietnam (ISV), began its educational journey with only a handful of students in the year 2013.

The not-for-profit project of RGS Vietnam was first planned in 2007, approved by the city’s authorities in 2009 and started building in 2010. In 2013-2014, the first academic year was opened, welcoming 65 students from Pre-K to Grade 5.

On 3rd June 2014, RGS Vietnam was authorised by Cambridge Assessment International Education CAIE (formerly known as Cambridge International Examinations CIE) to be a Cambridge school teaching Cambridge Secondary 1, Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and Cambridge AS/A Level.

In 2016, RGS Vietnam officially became an IB World school after being authorised by International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) to teach the Primary Years Programme (IB PYP). In the same year, our students and teachers participated in the first overseas competition - MetaSprint Triathlon in Singapore and even presented the first whole school Musical - the Kapok Tree (2015-2016 academic year).

In 2017, RGS Vietnam launched the Scholarship Programme, with the aim to recognise the students’ excellence in academic study, the arts or sports and support them financially to study at RGS Vietnam. RGS Vietnam later joined HAC - Hanoi Activities Conference to compete in several sports competitions with other international schools in Hanoi.

In 2018, RGS Vietnam was authorised to offer the IB Diploma Programme for students of Grade 11 & 12. The first IB DP cohort enrolled in the 2018 - 2019 academic year. 2019 marks RGS Vietnam’s first graduating class with 8 students, who got offers from 23 universities worldwide. Among 4 students who were offered scholarships, the highest amount of scholarship given to a student was $240,000 for 4 years.

RGS Vietnam started coordinating in the project of a dual program Cambridge A-Level and Vietnam National High School Curriculum for Chu Van An High School students (Grade 10 - 12) called RGS Vietnam/CVA-2016 since 2016. In 2020, 54 students of the first RGS Vietnam/CVA 2016 dual programme successfully graduated the Cambridge A-Level programme with awarded Cambridge certificates.

Also in 2020, RGS Vietnam had the first class to graduate with the IB Diploma. 13 of RGS Vietnam’s students received scholarships from 37 universities all over the world with a remarkable amount of over $976,000.

On 15th September, 2021, RGS Vietnam signed an international collaboration agreement with Reigate Grammar School in the UK and was officially renamed from The International School of Vietnam to Reigate Grammar School Vietnam, becoming the first school in Vietnam to have such a collaboration with a UK independent school.

With the untiring efforts of our staff, constant support of parents, and the passionate performance of our students, the small beginning continues to grow and have had the opportunity to touch the pinnacles of success. Today RGS Vietnam is a noted academic powerhouse of our city, Hanoi, with over 450  students from 30 nationalities. Its high standards are providing our community with a solid education, as we continue to strive to be a quality IB World school, living up to our school motto "to NURTURE, to EMPOWER and to CONNECT".
