Strengthening Vietnamese language and culture at RGSV

Recently, the Vietnamese Department at RGSV hosted a workshop on the school’s Vietnamese program. The event was honored to welcome Mrs. Mai Bich Thuy, Founder and the Chair, along with parents from both Preparatory and Secondary.

In her remarks, Mrs. Mai Bich Thuy emphasized the importance of learning Vietnamese for Vietnamese students studying at the school. Through inspiring stories and her wide-ranging experiences in many roles, she affirmed that mastering one’s mother tongue is not only essential but also brings lifelong benefits - from academics to personal growth, from today’s learning to future journeys.

At RGSV, the Vietnamese and Vietnamese Studies programs run seamlessly from Preparatory through Secondary, helping students sustain, strengthen, and expand their knowledge and skills in Vietnamese language, history, geography, and culture. The school also offers international certificate programs such as Cambridge IGCSE First Language Vietnamese and IB Vietnamese A: Language and Literature.

During the workshop, parents engaged in lively discussions, sharing their experiences of supporting and accompanying their children. We believe that a clear understanding of the role of Vietnamese, its unique features within an international school setting, together with strong collaboration between families and the school, will empower students to master their mother tongue while fostering pride and love for their homeland and heritage.
